The municipality of Liesberg BL is located in the Birstal, on the Basel-Delémont railway line. It belongs to the basellandschaftlichen district of Laufental. Its western borders form the language border with the French-speaking Jura. The following municipalities border our borders:
Laufen, Röschenz, and Roggenburg (Canton of Baselland), Kleinlützel and Bärschwil (Canton of Solothurn), Soyhières and Courroux (Canton of Jura).
The municipal area, which rises on both sides of the Birstal, covers an area of 1249 ha, making Liesberg the largest municipality in the Laufental district and the fourth-largest in the Canton of Baselland. 584 ha are suitable for agriculture, 93 ha are in the building zone, and 572 ha are forest (including water and rock).
The highest elevation in the municipal area is the Horniberg (836 m above sea level), which has also earned the people of Liesberg their nickname "d'Hörnli". The lowest point (372 m above sea level) is located in the valley floor.
